D McN Tokenhouse Maj (retd); Socialist Realism and the Prolitarianisation of Popular Art

Published by Bernard Stacey; despatched direct from the publisher; extended despatch times may apply.

The first half of the twentieth century has seen sweeping changes in Art. Old bourgeois and Romantic ideals have been brushed aside in favour of fresher, more socially aware styles. Chief amongst these is Socialist Realism, which brought both the art of painting and its message closer to the working man.
Using some of his own works as examples, former publisher Daniel Tokenhouse illustrates some of the principles and practices of this new art form in this short monograph.
