Whitechapel Bell Foundry Tour

Venue: Whitechapel Bell Foundry, 32/34 Whitechapel Road, London E1
Time: 0930 hrs
Cost: £10 per person
The Guinness Book of Records lists the Whitechapel Bell Foundry as Britain's oldest manufacturing company, having been established in 1570 (during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I) and being in continuous business ever since. An unusual tour of this working foundry which is a genuine part of Britain's cultural heritage and gives an intriguing look at the quintessentially English art of bell-ringing. All welcome. Anthony Powell Annual Lecture
"The End of the Dance"

to be given by The Earl of Gowrie
Venue: The Wallace Collection, Manchester Square, London, W1
Time: 1830 hrs

Lord Gowrie will discuss the end of the Dance sequence, its relationship to contemporary experiences of the ’60s and to the finale of Proust’s A la recherche du temps perdu.
Lord Gowrie held several posts in Margaret Thatcher’s government including a period as Minister for the Arts. He is also a former Chairman of the Arts Council and of Sotheby’s. A friend of the Powells, he has long been a devotee of Dance.
The Wallace Collection’s restaurant will be open following the lecture for those who wish to dine. Table booking on 020 7563 9505.

The London Group's annual celebration of Powell's birthday and marriage. The venue will be a moderately priced restaurant, probably in central London. Open to members & non-members.
